BIO
Troy Muller is an Omaha
artist that combines painting with sculpture. He draws inspiration from
the techniques and craft of past masters and fuses them with contemporary
issues that are important to him. He was born in Omaha in 1971. After
graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute as a painter in 1996, he
returned to Omaha to live. Troy met his wife Kristin, also an artist, when
he attended UNO for one year.
Troy is known by hundreds of students and former students in the Metro
area as an art instructor. He began teaching art classes in 1997 at
Threlkeld’s Art Studio. In 1998 he began teaching drawing at Joslyn Art
Museum. In 2000 He became an adjunct instructor of drawing and painting at
Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. In 2002 he began
teaching at Metro Community College. (He is currently teaching at the
museum and both colleges.) He has also supplemented his art and teaching
career with odd jobs including: illustration, art restoration and aquarium
maintenance.
Troy’s favorite pastime is nature study. He maintains his own saltwater
reef aquarium, takes nature hikes, and generally feels best when he is
outdoors. His interest in the natural sciences (especially biology and
astronomy) informs the subject matter of his artwork. His interest in
politics, conflict and society also fuel the content of his work.
What Price
Progress? is his
first major solo exhibition since 2001. The show features more than a
dozen new works that essay his thoughts and feelings about consumer
culture at the beginning of the 21st century.
